The special measures for “Permanent Residents” who failed to re-enter Japan within the period of validity of the “special re-entry permit”
 
    This is a special measure for foreign nationals with residence status of “permanent resident” who departed from Japan with a “special re-entry permit” (to re-enter Japan within 1 year of their departure) and failed to re-enter Japan within the valid period of the special re-entry permit due to the outbreak of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).
 
1 Eligibility for Applicant
(1) The residence status is “Permanent resident”
(2) Applicable to those who departed from Japan with a “special re-entry permit” and for whom the expiry date of the valid period of the special re-entry permit is between January 1, 2020 and one month six month after the day when the entry restrictions against Hong Kong and Macau were lifted.【from November 1 】
(note) Foreign nationals who departed from Japan with “re-entry permit” may use the procedure for extending the validity of the re-entry permit as usual.

2 Period of application
  In principle, within six months from the date when the entry restrictions against Hong Kong and Macau were lifted.
  (※ in case of a special emergency situation, please consult the Consulate-General of Japan in Hong Kong)
  (Note)The date on which the entry restriction measures were lifted means the date on which both the “denial of landing” for the country/region where the foreign national was staying and the “suspension of the validity of the issued visa” were lifted. As "suspension of the validity of the issued visa" is still remained in place, in principle such application cannot be made at the time being.

(note) Please note that applicants may be requested to provide any other documents deemed necessary.
     
 
4 Type of visa
  The “Long-term resident” visa will be issued after the visa application is approved. Subsequently, the procedure of granting the landing permit for “Permanent Resident” will be conducted at the port of entry after landing examination.
