Message by Ambassador Wada on the Emperor’s Birthday
On this February 23, His Majesty the Emperor of Japan is celebrating his 61st birthday.
It’s been a great pleasure and honour for us each year to welcome many guests including our local friends and the members of the Japanese community in Hong Kong and Macau at the receptions we usually host at both locations to celebrate the birthday of His Majesty the Emperor.
I am sure that many of you were looking forward to the occasion this year as well.
Both the Consulate staff and I were very much looking forward to meeting you all at the reception and observing this day together. However, due to the prevailing COVID-19 situation since last year, we unfortunately had to make the decision not to hold the reception again this year. I personally feel very sorry about this decision, but I would be grateful if I could seek your kind understanding on this matter.
The reception to celebrate His Majesty the Emperor’s birthday will thus not be held this year, but we have uploaded on our website, some material regarding the Imperial Family of Japan including their recent activities as well as some photos. I hope that you will have a chance to visit the page.
Lastly, I sincerely hope that the COVID-19 pandemic situation will end as soon as possible and wish you all good health and happiness.
23 February 2021 (Reiwa 3)

Mitsuhiro WADA
Ambassador and Consul-General
Consulate-General of Japan in Hong Kong
