A Festival in October and November which has different types of events: Movies, performing arts, arts and crafts, food & beverage, sports and intellectual exchanges, etc.
Its objective is to show appreciation to Hong Kong and to further encourage Hong Kong people to get to know and enjoy the attractions of Japan.

Second Time
The 2nd “Japan Autumn Festival in Hong Kong - Rediscovering Nippon-” (“The Festival” as below) following its launch in 2016 was held by the Consulate-General of Japan and the local Hong Kong community between Oct-Nov 2017.
No less than 138 events
Japanese local governments, cultural organizations and enterprises, together with the related organizations in Hong Kong, participated in the Festival and held no less than 138 events. The Festival in 2017 was also accredited as one of the events for celebrating the 20th anniversary of the establishment of HKSAR.
More than 430,000 people
The knock-on effect of the Festival was significant: it was estimated that the Festival in 2017 mobilized a total of more than 430,000 people. Reports have shown that the Festival helped to bring about a positive economic effect - one participant reported that it generated an additional revenue of more than JPY 10 million (≒HKD 0.68million) - and in some cases events which joined the Festival attracted far more customers and earned much greater profits than before.
Highly appreciated
The Festival helps to facilitate both Japan-Hong Kong relations and Japan-China relations, and its efforts are highly appreciated by both the government and citizens of Hong Kong.
Press ConferenceEvents showcase
The press conference of the “Japan Autumn Festival in Hong Kong” was held in Lan Kwai Fong on September 27, 2018. Japanese emcee Mr. Soko introduced the signature events this year to the attending media and guests. Featuring performances by a Japanese drum team and musicians from Japan and Hong Kong, as well as a surprise appearance by KUMAMON Mascot from Kumamoto Prefecture of Japan, the event was filled with a lively atmosphere.
Opening CeremonyAttended by CE
The opening ceremony was held on 10th October 2017 with 200 attendees including VIPs from all sectors of Hong Kong such as CE The Hon. Carrie Lam, President of LegCo The Hon. Mr. Andrew Leung Kwan-yuen, Legislators The Hon. Tommy Cheung Yu-yan and The Hon. Martin Liao Cheung-kong. The official mascot of NHK, “Domo”, appeared on stage, while performances of Japanese drum, Japanese Koto and Japanese calligraphy were also held during the ceremony. Japan’s high-end technology was also demonstrated on site through the screening of the “Toppan VR” video produced by Toppan Printing with the use of a NEC4K TV monitor
Major EventsVarious fields of events
Events covering a huge variety of themes were held, including: Films, Performances, Art & Craftsmanship, Sports, Seminars & Education, Food & Beverage, Promotional Campaign etc.
Lan Kwai Fong Japan Carnival: 11-12 November, the entire area of Lan Kwai Fong was opened for the carnival 85 thousand people joined over the two days, enjoyed sake, shochu and regional cultural dances from various areas in Japan. Then Financial Secretary and his spouse also attended the event.
Japan Sake Networking Reception: Many Japanese sake fans joined in the evnet in Hong Kong Japanese Club, Causeway Bay on 21 October. They enjoyed not only various kinds of sake from all over Japan, but Japanese food and authentic Japanese drum (taiko) music. Then CS the Hon. Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, also attended the event.
“Kindness & Selflessness – The Doctrine of Kurosawa Akira”: From 28 October to 19 November, 12 masterpieces by legendary director Kurosawa Akira were screened, including “Seven Samurai” and “Ran”, attracting an audience of 2500 people.
Closing CeremonyOfficial closing of the festival 2017
The Closing Ceremony was held together at the “Anzenchitai 35th Anniversary Tour Live in HK”. The “Japan Autumn Festival in Hong Kong - Rediscovering Nippon -” was successfully concluded.
