w-inds. is a Japanese pop dance group consisting of 3 members: Ryohei Chiba, Keita Tachibana and Ryuichi Ogata. They made their formal debut in 2001 and until 2018, they have already released 41 singles and 17 albums. This Symposium will be the 12th in a series of international symposiums on Japanese Language Education and Japanese Studies held every two years in Hong Kong. This year, the symposium will be jointly co-organized by the Department of Chinese and Bilingual Studies of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the Society of Japanese Langauge Education Hong Kong. With generous support provided by the department of Japanese language education / Japanese studies of various higher educational institutions, the 12th International Symposium will be a very important academic event in Hong Kong. Apart from Hong Kong academics, the symposium has also attracted the participation of scholars, educators and researchers from Japan, Mainland China, Taiwan, Singapore, and other East and Southeast Asian countries in the past years.

Madama Butterfly is a love story as old as time. Enchanted by the quaint customs of the east, American naval officer Pinkerton takes a young geisha girl for his wife. Butterfly falls deeply in love, believing her marriage as a lifetime commitment while Pinkerton treats it as a temporary arrangement for his fleeting pleasure. He goes home with his ship, leaving Butterfly behind. She gives birth to his child. Three years have passed; she waits faithfully for his return with unwavering hope, only to find herself betrayed and abandoned. Her dream shattered, Butterfly sacrifices her own life to preserve her honour. Premiered in 1904, Madama Butterfly is one of the best-loved of all operas. Its enduring popularity is due to Puccini’s ravishingly beautiful music, Butterfly’s charming and faithful character, and the heart-wrenching story presented in the libretto by Giacosa and Illica. It takes the audience on an emotionally charged journey through innocence, betrayal and sacrifice towards a heart-breaking finale. This new production marks the 10th anniversary of Musica Viva, which celebrated its inauguration with this same opera in 2008. Now, conducted by Lio Kuokman, Laureate of the Svetlanov Conducting Competition in Paris, and directed by Lo Kingman, the prolific opera producer, these performances will feature a brilliant international cast supported by Hong Kong’s best musicians, choristers, designers and theatre practitioners.

《蝴蝶夫人》敘述美國海軍軍官平克頓因愛上東方風情，娶了一位名叫「蝴蝶」的藝妓。她真心以待，但他只是逢場作戲，婚後不久就丟下她隨船返國。三年來蝴蝶獨力撫養兒子，堅信丈夫會回來與她團聚，最後卻發現自己已被遺棄，於是選擇自盡以保名節。 這齣歌劇一直深受觀眾喜愛。普契尼的迷人音樂、蝴蝶的可愛忠誠、佐科沙與依力卡的細膩文本，令觀眾隨著劇中人的遭遇而深受感動。
《蝴蝶夫人》為「非凡美樂」2008年創團之作，今年正值十周年，誌慶重演，由巴黎史雲蘭洛夫大賽得主廖國敏指揮、資深歌劇製作人盧景文導演、國際頂級歌唱家主演，加上著名的香港名家樂友樂團和非凡美樂合唱團的鼎力合作，台前幕後演出者皆為一時才俊。

A maid spends her whole life for a man’s artistic achievement

Set in the Meiji era, this film centres on Kiku, the adopted son of a famous Kabuki actor, who trains to succeed in his father’s career. His acting skills are still immature but he is surrounded by sycophants, and only Otoku the servant girl is frank with him about his abilities. Kiku and Otuku fall in love, but their relationship is frowned upon due to their wide social gap. Kiku is later forced out of the theatre troupe and tries to hone his skills on the road, while the faithful Oyuku stays by his side. The first installment in a trilogy about theater, this film combines the theme of woman’s sacrifice with that of the pursuit of artistic excellence. The director’s use of long takes to depict the world of theatre in the Meiji era reveal the splendors of the Kabuki stage while at the same time telling a compelling and heart-warming story about human fortitude.

Japan Plant Export Council (JPEC), has been in cooperation with local florist Hay Fever Floral and Gifts since the year 2010, in the effort of promoting Japanese floral produce to Hong Kong. Cohosted numerous events and promotions throughout the years, the annual “JPEC Flowers and Plants Show Hong Kong” has stood out to be the most significant event each year. Soon reaching its ninth anniversary, the show has been presenting many great varieties of high quality, Japan grown flowers and plants to tens of thousands of floral enthusiasts in Hong Kong. It has also been a tremendous opportunity to invite many growers from Japan to meet in person with the Hong Kong consumers and introduce their respective prefectures and produce. Making this an unique floral experience and platform for both Hong Kong enthusiasts and Japanese growers! Over 7,000 visitors were recorded during the 3 days show last year.

This year, the ninth “JPEC Flowers and Plants Show” will once again be held at Hay Fever Floral & Gifts on the famous Flower Market Road in Mongkok. The eventful weekend will start from 30th November to 2nd December, visitors can enjoy the wonderful flowers and plants from Japan and the chance to meet with growers.

自2010年起，「日本植物輸出協會」聯同本地花店「花粉熱鮮花禮品有限公司」，合力推廣日本花卉產品至香港。每年舉辦多個介紹及推廣活動，就以一年一度的「JPEC日本植物花卉展覽會」最具規模。即將舉辦第九屆，此展會過往給香港花友展示過各種各樣且品質優良的日本產鮮花植物，更曾邀請多位日本花農來港向大家親自介紹他們生產的鮮花植物和他們的縣市；令這展會成為一個別開生面的花卉體驗及交流平台。去年在三天展期內更錄得超過7,000入場人次。

今年，第九屆「JPEC日本植物花卉展覽會」再次假「花粉熱鮮花禮品」位於旺角花墟道的總店；由十一月三十日至十二月二日的週末舉行。屆時大家可趁這機會入場欣賞數百種花卉植物及與多位日本花農見面交流。

日本で生産された多種多様・高品質な花き鉢物・切花を、香港の花屋街にある小売店舗を貸し切りにして一堂に展示します。数百種類の花きを、香港の消費者の皆様にご覧いただける場になります。通算9年目の開催となる本イベントは、昨年は3日間で7000名を越える来場者がありました。また、日本からも花き生産者が複数名本イベントに参加し、自身が生産した花きをPRします。

2015 BROOK’S於香港利東街開設香港首間海外分店，日本茶、抹茶飲品及食品，深受顧客歡迎及愛戴。為滿足客人對日本茶道及日本美食之興趣及推廣，BROOK’S將於12月2日引入自家日本茶品牌“幸修園”為店名，繼而推廣更多日本茶道及日本食物文化給香港客人。

About SUKUMO LEATHER
SUKUMO Leather is a kind of leather that was applied traditional natural blue indigo dyeing, about 600 years ago in Japan.

We use Awa Indigo raised in the Awa area in Tokushima Prefecture, and they are dyed one by one by kimono dyeing craft workers in Kyoto.

Not only the shading of monochrome objects, but also the techniques of kimono dyeing "Aperture" and "Low Keats" are also applied to leather as it is. Drying and fermenting indigo leaves is called "蒅 (Sukumo)", and its "蒅 (Sukumo)" is re-fermented with only natural power and dyed up, all leather is dyed naturally.

In recent years, Blue of Denim spreads widely in the world, seemingly similar But most of them are chemical indigo.

国選定無形文化財である徳島県の阿波藍を使い、京都で天然灰汁建本藍染された世界でも稀有な天然本藍染革です。

約600年続く伝統製法から生み出される天然染料『蒅』（すくも）を使用。 天然染色による繊細で味わい深い色合いを、色彩豊かに8色のグラデーションとして表現しました。 デザインレザーとして、伝統染色技法である「絞り染め」や「ローケツ染め」を施したレザーもラインアップしています。

徳島県・阿波藍に現在5軒残る藍師の一人、外山良治氏の藍畑で育った蒅を使用。 京都㈲浅井ローケツの二代目・浅井直幸氏による伝統的な天然灰汁建本藍染で染色します。

About the speaker

Chiharu Mukudai graduated with an MA in Sociology from the Konan Women’s University (Japan) and an MA in Communication Studies (Film Studies) from the University of Iowa (USA).
She was translator for many international film festivals in Japan. She previously gave special seminars titled “Popular Japanese Movie Characters” and “Impression on Japanese Film Locations” at the School of Continuing Education of the Hong Kong Baptist University.

Geisha mother and daughter fall in love with the same man
Two generations write an elegy of life

Yukiko returns to Kyoto following a failed suicide attempt and stays in the geisha house run by her mother, Hatsuko. Spurned by her lover after he has found out about her mother's profession, Yukiko is initially disdainful of prostitution but gradually becomes sympathetic to the tragic and helpless girls working under her mother. At the same time, Yukiko’s relationship with Hatsuko’s secret lover Dr. Matoba becomes increasingly intimate, which causes her mother grief and forces the two to come to a head. This film was shot on a lavish set that recreates the geisha district of Shimabara in Kyoto and stars Kinuyo Tanaka, who plays Hatsuko, and Yushiko Kuga as Yukiko. The sparring scenes in which the mother and daughter fight over the same man is especially riveting.

After graduating from the Tokyo University of the Arts, Emi Nakamura went to further her study in Vienna, Austria. Besides Bel Canto, she also specializes in Japanese folk songs. We intend to introduce the beautiful Japanese folk songs to our HK audience through this recital.

是次獨唱會將演唱日本、德、意、法之藝術歌曲及歌劇選曲。中村氏於日本國立東京藝術大學畢業後遠赴維也纳深造，並活躍於歐洲地區。

日本歌曲をはじめ、イタリアのアリアを紹介。中村恵美は、東京芸術大学卒業後、ウィーンに渡り、ヨーロッパを中心に活躍している若手のミュージシャン。

Christopher Yohmei Blasdel is a world renowned shakuhachi performer. He studied the shakuhachi and Japanese music with Japan’s Living National Treasure Goro Yamaguchi. Blasdel received his MFA in ethnomusicology from Tokyo University of Fine Arts and was honored with the professional name “Yohmei” from Yamaguchi—the first of only two non-Japanese accredited by Yamaguchi.

Blasdel has organized the World Shakuhachi Festival the US, Europe, Australia, and the Pacific. He performs around the world and has taught at prestigious institutions such as Earlham College (Indiana), Chulalongkorn University (Thailand), Texas A&M University (Texas), University of Washington (Seattle), Charles University (Prague), Salisbury University (Maryland), Seijo Gakuen University (Tokyo). Presently, he teaches Japanese music at the University of Hawai’i, Mānoa.

The Hong Kong Branch of the Sogetsu Teachers’ Association (STA HK) was founded in1969 as a non-profit, cultural organization. The main objective of STA HK is to promote the growth and advancement of the Art of Ikebana according to the spirit of the Sogetsu School.

STA HK organizes monthly workshop for its members. We participate in the group work and the demonstration during the Hong Kong Flower Show in March and hold the annual ikebana exhibition in November. The theme of this year's exhibition is “Floral Orchestra”.We are going to showcase one large group works and more than 30 individual creations. Details as follow:

草月教師會 香港分會成立於1969年，為一個非牟利之文化機構。草月教師會 香港分會的主要宗旨是依據草月學校的精神，推動插花藝術的成長發展和創新。

草月指導者連盟香港支部（HKSTA) は１９６９年に非営利の文化団体として設立されました．草月流本部は日本の東京にあります。HKSTAの目的は草月流の精神に沿ったいけばなの発展を促進し、会員の技術と興味をはぐくむことです。

HKSTAは毎月会員の為のワークショップを開いています。また、春には香港フラワーショーのグループワークとデモンストレーションに参加しています。秋の11月には恒例の華展を主催しますが、今年の華展のテーマは　”花のオーケストラ”で、場所は7 Mallory Street, Wanchaiの3です。グループによる大作を始め, 3０点を越す個人作品が出展されます。 詳細は下記の通りです。

全人手製作的染布花工藝源遠流長，已有上千年歷史，一絲一瓣透過裁、染、燙、塑、組等工序，注入造花者的思緒情意，拼組出一朵朵充滿溫度的花兒，是世上僅有的珍寶。染布花的塑形沒有局限，全由造花者的意志去自由創作，小至髮飾手環，大至巨型裝置藝術也可做到。
