(Important Notice) The Temporary Suspension of the Phased Measures toward Resuming Cross-Border Travel remains in effect

 
On March 18, the Japanese Government decided on a new set of measures for border enforcement. The details are as follows.

1. The Temporary Suspension of the Phased Measures for Resuming Cross-Border Travel remains in effect
    
The “Phased Measures toward Resuming Cross-Border Travel (‘Short-term stay for business’ and ‘Holders of Certificate of Eligibility’)” (visa applications submitted with written pledge), which were launched on 1 October,2020 and cover all countries/regions, are currently in effect until the lifting of the state of emergency declaration, will remain in effect for the time being.
   
    (Note) In principle, valid visa holders who have submitted an application with a written pledge, will be permitted to enter Japan until 0:00 am (JST) on 21 January.
However, those who have stayed in the United Kingdom or the Republic of South Africa, or in a country/region which is subject to denial of permission to enter, within 14 days prior to the application for landing are denied entry to Japan.
 
2. Visa applications without a written pledge (prepared by the accepting company or organisation in Japan)
    
Visa applications without a written pledge for those whose status is “Diplomat”, “Official”, “Spouse or Child of Japanese National”, and “Spouse or Child of Permanent Resident”) etc., will be resumed as usual.
  In addition, holders of above visas will be permitted to enter Japan after 21 January.

3. Points to be noted
(1) Effective from 0:00 am (JST) on January 13, 2021, “Certificate of Negative Test Result” conducted within 72 hours (from the sampling time to departure time of the flight) is required for all nationals arriving from all regions.

(2) Effective from 0:00 am (JST) on January 14, 2021, “Written Pledge (Individual)” must be submitted to the airport for all nationals arriving from all regions.

(Other)
  • The validity of visas issued by 8 March 2020 by the Consulate of General of Japan in Hong Kong is still suspended for the time being.
  • The visa exemption measures agreed with Japan and Hong Kong and Macau are still temporarily suspended for the time being.
