Important notice on the handling of visas for expired Certificate of Eligibility (COE) due to the influence of Novel Coronavirus(3 July,2020)
 
Immigration Services Agency, Ministry of Justice of Japan has decided a new handling regarding the period of validity of the Certificate of Eligibility due to the influence of the Novel Coronavirus.
 
(1)  Applicable statuses of residence
All statuses of residence subject to a certificate of eligibility 
 
(2) Applicable regions
All countries / regions 
 
(3)  Applicable certificates of eligibility
Issued on or after October 1, 2019, up until January 29, 2021 
 
(4)  Period deemed to be valid
Six months from the date of the entry restriction measures being lifted or until April 30, 2021, whichever comes first.
(Note) The date on which the entry restriction measures were lifted means the date on which both the “denial of landing” for the country/region where the foreign national was staying and the“suspension of the validity of the issued visa” were lifted.
 
(5) Condition to be deemed valid
Where a document is submitted stating that the accepting organization, etc. “is able to continue accepting the foreign national with the same activity contents as were given at the time of the application for the certificate of eligibility” at the time of applying for a visa at the diplomatic mission abroad.
 
(6)  The above handling only applies after the lifting of the entry restrictions measures for the country/region where the foreign national was staying.
