Outline of eligibility
Age: born between April 2, 1996 and April 1, 2008
Education: must be an undergraduate student at a non-Japanese university majoring in fields related to the Japanese language or culture
* If your major is Japanese language or Japanese studies, but the course title does not explicitly include related terms (such as "Oriental Studies" or "Asian Studies"), please contact us to confirm whether you meet the eligibility requirements for application.

Selection process
1. Documents review
2. Written Test (Japanese): 25 February 2026 (Wednesday)
3. Interview: Early-March 2026
4. Acceptance notification: August 2026
* Shortlisted candidates will be notified of the date, time and venues of their interviews and exams.

All students must submit all documents mentioned in Point 7 (1)-(8) and a copy of passport.
If any of the documents required are not available by the application deadline for particular reasons, please contact the Consulate-General of Japan before submitting your application.
* Applicants are strongly advised to fill in the forms digitally by typing and keep the files until the end of the selection process. We may ask applicants to sumit digital forms if necessary.
