In view of the large number of enquiries regarding the MEXT Scholarship, we have compiled a list of frequently asked questions and suggest applicants to read the information before completing the application form. Japanese Studies Students
 
This scholarship aims at providing an opportunity for Hong Kong and Macau students who wish to study for a period of one year at designated Japanese universities as Japanese studies in order to deepen their understanding of the Japanese language, Japanese affairs and Japanese culture.

Outline of eligibility
Age: born between April 2, 1995 and April 1, 2007
Education: must be an undergraduate student at a non-Japanese university majoring in fields related to the Japanese language or culture
 
Departure date
September or October 2025
 
Placement at University
Designated by MEXT, taking into account your placement preference
 
Application period
24 December 2024 (Tuesday) to 7 February 2025 (Friday) at 5:00 p.m.
 
Selection process
1. Documents review
2. Written Test (Japanese): 17 February 2025 (Monday)
3. Interview: 4 March 2025 (Tuesday)
4. Acceptance notification: August 2025
 
* Shortlisted candidates will be notified of the date, time and venues of their interviews and exams.

All students must submit all documents mentioned in Point 7 (1)-(8) and a copy of passport.
If any of the documents required are not available by the application deadline for particular reasons, please contact the Consulate-General of Japan before submitting your application.
