The Consul-General’s Commendation presentation ceremony for Mr. Seiji IWAO, former President of the Hong Kong Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and former Chairman of Hong Kong Japanese School Management Committee, was held on 17 April, 2023, and the award was presented by Mr. Kenichi OKADA, Consul-General (Ambassador) of Japan.
The Consul-General’s Commendation is an award presented by Ambassadors/Consul-Generals in respective countries and regions to individuals or groups who have contributed to the promotion of mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and foreign countries and regions.
Mr. IWAO was appointed Chairman of Hong Kong Japanese School Management Committee in June, 2018. During this period, the administrative structure was reformed and drastic measures were implemented in order for the schools to continue to operate.
In June 2021, he was appointed President of the Hong Kong Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and while leading and managing the Chamber in line with the times, he worked to ensure the efficient operation of the Chamber by consolidating the 13 'groups' into 9 'groups', and also made a great contribution to the development of the Chamber's activities by pushing for the full operation of 'committees (GBA committee, Environment committee and Health Medical committee)', which have different functions from 'groups', such as identifying new businesses and addressing issues.
This time the Consul-General’s Commendation was presented to acknowledge Mr. IWAO’s significant achievements.
