Ms Sally WONG, the former Chairman of the Japan Society of Hong Kong, has been awarded the Foreign Minister’s Commendation for 2024. (Announced on 1st August 2024).
The Foreign Minister’s Commendations are awarded by the Minister of Foreign Affairs to individuals and groups who have made outstanding achievements in the promotion of mutual understanding and friendship between Japan and other countries and regions, as well as in the development of the external economy etc.
Ms WONG served as the Principal Representative of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government's Economic and Trade Office in Tokyo from 2011 to 2016, making a great contribution to the development of Japan-Hong Kong relations. Afterwards, as a member of the Japan Society of Hong Kong, a core organisation for cultural exchange with Japan, she has been working closely with the Consulate-General of Japan in Hong Kong in supporting the various activities carried out by the Society for deepening mutual understanding between Japan and Hong Kong. In particular, from 2020 to 2023, Ms WONG was appointed as the Chairman of the Japan Society of Hong Kong and was responsible for the management of the Society. Despite the difficult period of the COVID-19 pandemic, she actively planned and coordinated Japan-related events and made a significant contribution to the maintenance of the Society’s operations.
The Foreign Minister’s Commendation is awarded in recognition of Ms WONG’s outstanding achievements.
