Mr. CHAN Chun Fai, Honorary Life President of The Karatedo Federation of Hong Kong, China Limited, awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Silver Rays

 
     On 3^rd November 2021, the Government of Japan announced the foreign recipients of the Reiwa 3 Autumn Conferment of Decorations. The Order of the Rising Sun, Silver Rays, has been conferred on Mr. CHAN Chun Fai, Honorary Life President of The Karatedo Federation of Hong Kong, China Limited, in recognition of his contribution to promoting Karate and spreading friendship and goodwill between Japan and Hong Kong. Details are as follows:
 
・Conferment:                   The Order of the Rising Sun, Silver Rays.
・Major accomplishment:    Contributed to the promotion of Karate in Hong Kong and spreading friendship
                                        and goodwill between Japan and Hong Kong.

     Mr. CHAN started practicing karate in the 1960’s and has represented Hong Kong in many world karate tournaments. He is an honorary tenth degree black belt and was the first karate practitioner in Hong Kong to perform “Kawara-wari” (tile-breaking). Since 1998, he has supported to organize many international karate tournaments  in Hong Kong and, in 2008, he was appointed as the Honorary Life President of The Karatedo Federation of Hong Kong, China Limited. In addition to running his own karate dojo, he is also committed to promoting karate in Hong Kong and cultivating young karate athletes. At present, there are 173 karate dojos affiliated with The Karatedo Federation of Hong Kong, 430 registered coaches and 2,800 individual members in Hong Kong. The 2020 Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist, Grace Lau Mo-sheung, is one of the karate athletes he cultivated. Mr. CHAN had been  a volunteer karate coach at universities and police academies. His main business is running a travel agency – Toyo Travel Agency Co. – of which he is the President. Additionally, in 2007, he became an honorary advisor to the Hong Kong Japanese Tour Operators Association.
